AVRIL LAVIGNE FORCED TO POSTPONE SIX ADDITIONAL U.S. TOUR DATES DUE
TO ACUTE LARYNGITIS
Los Angeles, CA (May 3, 2008) - After Avril Lavigne performed 37
shows across the country, she announced this evening that she must
postpone the next six dates of her North American "The Best Damn
Tour" due to her acute laryngitis. Lavigne previously cancelled
shows this week in Phoenix and San Diego due to her condition.
"My sincerest apologies to all of my fans. My intention was to
complete the rest of the tour but tonight at sound check in Anaheim I
realized this wasn't possible. Even though I have been resting my
voice for days, when I tried to sing nothing came out." Lavigne said
this evening.
Refunds will be available at point of purchase on Monday.
Postponed dates are as follows:
05/03/08 Anaheim, CA Honda Center
05/04/08 Universal City, CA Gibson Amph. At Univ. CityWalk
05/06/08 Santa Barbara, CA Santa Barbara Bowl

Okay so I just read tons of the comments on avril cancelling her shows. Most of the comments were so harsh like seriously.. some people need to chill out. sometimes u feel like crap in the morning but are good in the afternoon- night. Maybe avril felt crappy in the am and was hoping to be all better for her show. and like seriously ppl who write my daughter is not a avril fan now like wtf seriously!!!! yeah it bites that she cancelled but hey EVERYONE gets sick. just cause she is a start doesnt mean she gets special pills to get better in a jiffy she has been toruing her butt off and needs a little break its obvious she is gunna get sick. singing everynight and bonucing around that stage. Im a true avril fan and it just hurts to see all these negative comments towards her because she is sick, and no she isnt pregnant man ppl beleive everything they hear its dumb. I do recall avril's grandfather passing away and her finding out before her show a few years ago but she still performed for her fans she could of easily cancelled it but she went through it with the pain she was suffering. You guys need to chill out and seriously if ur a true fan you will understand and dont be so negative towards avril. Avril Hope you get better soon and can't wait to see you in a few years again for you next album since you;ve alrady been to my city keep rocking out.

finally i have read a comment from a fan who understands not to belive everything they hear. some ppl actually understand its not avrils fault shes sick everyone gets sick and avril does want to peroform. so you other ppl who are just writting rude things for avril to read you serisouly need to just SHUT UP!!! avril doesn't need to listen to all of you being rude don't bother wasting her time. ppl should coutine to write nice sporting comments for avril and fans to read!!! I haven't been a lifelong fan, but I really look up to her and love her music and was looking forward to this concert for six months atleast. I got these tickets for xmas, and I screamed and started crying I was so happy. now Sohbet I'm crying because I'm so sad!! I hope she gets better, I really do, but what are the odds that she gets sick RIGHT before I finally get to see her?? wow, karma's cruelest trick ever.

It was a MAJORRRR bummer that your concert was postponed because it was my friends 16th birthday party and she invited 15 girls to your concert and when we got to the Honda center, we found out that it has been postponed. She is a MAJOR fan of yours and she wasn't able to get her cake that her dad payed soo much money for and her party was ruined. Couldn't you have just lipsynched or something? i mean we all would have understood because you have laryngitus but maybe you could have don something. Please dont cancel your concert so that my friend can still have her sweet sixteen with all her friends and have a memorable birthday party.

bp2010, if she lip synced her career will take a nose dive and be over! For my $$ I want to see my artists perform live. If you wanted to see her lip synced, you can just listen to a CD or watch a video.

Dear Avril,
Please reschedule your postponed dates. You can always add them to the end of your tour in August on your way back home to California, after you finish up in Canada. It's a bummer that you got sick, and you did the right thing by not trying to lip sync or putting on anything less than 100% of your show. Your true fans will get over it, once they get to see what a great show you put on! So PLEASE give us all a chance to see it. Better late, than never!

Come on. You think Avril chose to be sick? And don't blame her for not alerting the newspaper or radio or whatnot, it's her management's job. I know people are disappointed, I would be too, but the point is that this is one of those things that just can't be helped! I bet Avril wakes up each morning feeling like crap because she has no voice and knows that she's letting down her fans. The only thing for us to do is to support her and be empathetic throughout this whole ordeal, and not make her feel even worse by actively voicing how angry you are at her. The only reason why all the postponed dates are released so late is probably because Avril wants to wait and see if her voice gets any better. Who knows? Maybe she'll wake up one morning and feel completely healthy and would be capable of doing a show. But then again, she probably woke up these past mornings and knows she can't do a show, so she postpones it the day of. So stop criticizing Avril and be supportive.
Recent Concert Postponed
My daughter and I were supposed to got to the LA show yesterday and someone had mentioned that the San Diego show had been postponed so I checked the Gibson Amphitheater site and the Avril site and could not find anywhere where it stated that the show had been canceled. My daughters birthday is this week and she is a really big fan (even did a ballet solo last year in her recital to Miss You after much arguing with her teacher). I can't even tell you the disappointment she feels right now. I checked both sites and then we headed off to the concert in our black and hot pink excited to see her first concert and have some mother/daughter time together, when we arrived there was no notice on the markee - the parking guy told guy us. I later checked this site and found it under posted concerts which I would think meant upcoming shows not postponed shows. My greatest disappointment from this comes from trying to be informed and getting no information until we arrived at the venue and then having to deal with tears and sadness. Well as of right now my daughter is not the biggest fan of Avril Lavigne -she understands as do I that people get sick and cannot perform but having a lack of sensitivity about these things and not informing everyone is just not right. I have been through the postponed concert thing before and I hope that this really is a postponed concert because in the past with other artists - that is what is said but in the end - you don't see the show, you don't get the convenience charge back and the concert you saved up for to go with you daughter is just lost and as is the feeling of the whole experience.

Seeing you in concert and attending your meet and greet in Anaheim is a dream come true for my daughter who just turned 6. My daughter and I were anxiously awaiting those doors to open just to meet you and rock out to your music. My daughter, Baylee, was crying in the parking lot as we were getting back in our car. I looked down at her, and I told her that we were going to see Avril one of these days no matter what. She looked up at me and said, "I feel so sad that Avril has a hurt throat and can't sing. She needs to rest for a long time so she gets her voice back. I don't want her to have to lip sync her concerts, I want to really hear her sing!" Thank you, Avril, for your wonderful music that my daughter thoroughly enjoys listening and singing along with. She was actually singing in line on Saturday as people commented on her beautiful singing voice. Please take as much time as you need to fully recover, don't rush back too soon. We will always be avid fans of yours!!! We love you, Avril!!!! You rock!

I have been reading all you "true" "real" Avril fan's comments. I don't think you understand what people are pissed off about. So Avril is sick and had to postpone some shows....FINE. But there is no excuse for her waiting until the last minute to postpone. I have had 2 different concerts canceled/postponed before. I was informed by ticketmaster the morning of one of the concerts that it was postponed and with the other concert an article was in the newspaper to inform the fans that the concert was canceled. I didn't waste money and time on going to these concerts to be let down. Also the people that are complaining are the people that are out of money because of this. I am sure the majority of these "true" fans...their parents footed the money for the concert and for transportation to Anaheim, so why would they be upset? Just think of all the problems that could have been avoided if Avril would have postponed this earlier. I sure the employees of the Honda center weren't so happy to show up to work for nothing. It is not like Avril works at Wal-mart, where you can call in for your shift at the last minute. She is a live performer, this decision affected a lot of people. This is why people are upset, not because they are not "true" "real" fans. I would be much more sympathetic and understanding if she had gave better notice of the postponed show that is all I am saying people!

ya but the thing is that avril didn't want to cancel the shows thats why she waited till last minuet she wated to do as many shows as possible and hopefully not have to cancell any shows. she didn't know that the flu she had was going to get this bad shes not some kind of physced. she still would of performed if she had her voice , she didn't know till last minuet that she couldn't perform!!! she tried her hardest not disapoint fans!!!

I'm a huge Avril fan, but this is totally messed up. When Celine Dion had laryngitis she was back on her feet in no time. I'm guessing there is something else, like her being pregnant or something. I really don't buy the laryngitis thing. Not only that but I bought these tickets back in January for her Spokane concert. My 8 year old is going to be crushed. I live over an hour away from where the concert was going to be so I can't exactly rush into ticketswest and get a refund. This was the "worst damn thing". She's going to have a lot of disappointed fans.

Anaheim Concert
I support Avril in her choice to cancel the concert in Anaheim. I was there and had flown from Utah to see her. I don't regreat going though because it was still fun!!!
I would rather have to get new tickets and wait than have a "bad concert", she made the right choice and it shows that she loves what she does and her fans to not go and give them a not so good concert..

She is so dedicated
She had every intention of finishing the tour at any cost, losing her voice is the cruelest bit of irony it is solely probably the ONLY thing that would stop Avril from performing. I mean what can you do about it, its not like breaking a guitar string, you only have one voice, you cant get another one. I hope she gets lots of rest, gets her voice back, and not to worry no true fan will hold this against her, if she reschedules those shows later in the year its all the same. The reason why Avril is still relevant after 6 years is that people know how sincere she is. Shes great, and she deserves the time to recover.

What is the deal people????
After reading the many letters of discontent and drama I have to respond...are you all so self centered as to explain all the hardships and dissapointment YOU have endured by not being able to see Avril. What do you expect her to do-come onstage and lip sync or give a half assed show that would probably make her more ill? I think a lot of you owe her an apology and some of you deserve a thank you for your understanding and support. I feel your best chance for a tour reschedule is to write to Avril and tell her how much you love her and care for her well being. She is really a nice person...she is tough but also vunerable as we all are at times. Avril if you read this please know there are a huge amount of fanatics that will ALWAYS love and care for you even if you never write sing or tour again. Please don't let this pressure change your sweet deameanor ~ use it as fodder for future songs! People try to understand the circumstance Avril is in...remember it's not the destination but the journey...The show will be that much better when it comes back around. If your making a big deal about having the concer postpond then i guess your not her fans if you are blamming her for postponding the concert because of illness. Everyone gets sick! Atleast the Anaheim concert isn't canceld for sure. Im backing up Avril ITS NOT HER FUALT
Anaheim Show
I know nobody wants to sit here and read everyones sob story about the concert being canceled last second, but don't you think there should be some sort of a rule that it needs to be decided a little more in advance than that? I drove down from Lake Tahoe, 450 miles and 8 hours later, I turned my car around and drove home. We checked for updates all day knowing that she was sick a few days before and nothing was posted at all. I understand that performers can be sick, but maybe a further in advance cancelation would have saved me 16 hours of driving (and a 20 over speeding ticket on the way). I hope she feels better and finishes her tour in style, I just wish I would have been able to be a part of it.

I had tickets to the show in Anaheim. This was the christmas gift for my sister (I bought the tickets in November). I was looking on the official Avril Lavigne website a few days before my scheduled concert. I saw that Avril had postponed the Phoneix and San Diego shows. I didn't see ANYTHING stating that the Anaheim show may possibly be postponed. The day of the show May 3rd, I checked the website again, it didn't say ANYTHING about the show being postponed. I drove over 100 miles after working a 10 hour shift at work. I rushed to get to the Honda Center only to be greeted with a big sign stating "Tonight's concert has been postponed". I was so irrate. I understand that Avril is sick, however this was not news to me. She already knew she was sick...why wasn't the concert "postponed" earlier. It is not fair to the fans ("real" or not) to haul their cookies to a concert to find out such news. I have had concert canceled by other artists before, however the big difference with these other artists was that I was informed in ample time that the concert was canceled. They didn't wait til the last minute to cancel. I wasted a tank of gas for nothing! I don't know how things are in Canada, but in the US gas is not cheap. At least we could have been offered discount parking or something for the future show. I think that some kind of clarity would be nice or rather there will be a future performance. I want to see Avril, but I need to know when the make-up date will be (if there is a date). Please inform your fans as soon as possible. I don't want to wait around with my tickets that I paid for over 5 months ago for nothing. If I need to get a refund I want to know. Even if I do get a refund I am going to be out $26.00 for convenience fees. Is there a time frame in which to get a refund? Very Very disappointed Avril!
Anaheim Concert
Hey i'm Avril lavigne's biggest fan and all my life i have been waiting to go and see Avril. my mother posted a thing on ticket master and she put in something that had to do when avril was coming close to ontario california. Finally she was in anaheim!!!! So my mom said to me and my friend Jackie, " Now the tickets go on sale at 10:00." So when that day came, my friend had spent the night and it was 9:45 and we were ready and everything. so we had goneten 5 row seat and i was so excited, i couldn't wait. So may 3 came around and me and my mom when looking for pink hairspray. So me and my friend Jackie put that in my hair and everything panited our nails and did a shirt and everything. got there ate and then walked over to the honda ceneter and then people were walking back saying it was canceled. I SCREAMED! I WAS SOOO DISAPPOINTED! Finally i found out what ahppened and i thought well she sick not DEAD and the concert is postpond, not canceld. And now everyone is making a big deal about, but Avrils sick, you can't blam her.! Everyone gets sick. So STOP BLAMMING AVRIL LAVIGNE FOR THIS!

btw what does refunds "at point of purchase" means?
does that just means that everyone that purchased a ticket is getting their money back?
because in my ticket it said that there wasn't gonna be any refunds if the show was cancelled
Universal City date
Universal City date officially cancelled now. It would be nice to know why, if it was impossible to reschedule or just a band decision. This was the first concert I ever planned for ANY singer/band and I was so looking forward to it evden eve nakliyat ..never again. I think I'll stick to listening to music on CDs from here on out.
